Eye Pro is a little free tool whose aim is to remind you not to look at the computer screen for too long without giving your eyes some rest. You can set the program to remind you every X number of minutes of taking either a short or a long break, and it will show you some useful tips and eye exercises for you to relax your eyesight.
Its simple interface is merely a configuration window, where you can set the various parameters needed to schedule your breaks according to your needs and the use you make of your computer. You can set different lapses of time for each type of break (typically, you will need to take various short breaks in between long breaks), and ask the program to notify you X seconds before the next long break. The program offers you some useful statistics about how well or bad you are using the program, telling you the number of short and long breaks taken, as well as the number of those you skipped or postponed. You are then given a mark that reflects your overall progress. A “Health Meter” placed in the main window will give you performance information in real time.
One of the most interesting features of Eye Pro is the possibility of using a TMH code (Trace Message Header file) to configure your settings according to your personal situation. This is how it works – you are asked to fill in a questionnaire about the use you make of your computer, the type of computer you use, the symptoms you feel during and after using it (headaches, dry eyes, burning eyes, etc.), the glasses you wear (if any), etc. Your answers will be used to generate a TMH code (a figure) that the program will use to set the number and frequency of the breaks according to your eye health and visual needs. All in all, a clever little free tool worth trying – it may not cure neither your sore eyes nor your back ache, but it will surely make you blink more often, which is always a good thing.
